The 65 km border road from Dharchula to Dugtu is rugged, rocky, and involves crossing water streams. Travel only in high-clearance 4x4 Bolero campers or experienced local taxis.
There are no luxury hotels in upper Darma; authentic rustic homestays run by Rung families provide warm quilts, solar hot water, and delicious organic local meals.
Darma Valley is habitable only from May to October. In November, heavy snowfall forces residents to migrate down to Dharchula for the winter.
