A serene freshwater lake trek nestled in dense oak and rhododendron woods, revered in Hindu mythology as the birthplace of Lord Ganesha and home to the rare Himalayan Golden Trout.
The Dodital Lake Trek in Uttarkashi district is one of the most enchanting forest and lake trails in northern India. Set at 3,024 meters, the emerald lake is fed by natural freshwater springs and is celebrated as the legendary birthplace of Lord Ganesha.
The trail begins at Sangamchatti and winds through the picturesque traditional villages of Agoda and Bebra. It ascends alongside the sparkling Assi Ganga river beneath ancient canopies of oak, pine, and scarlet rhododendrons.
The lake itself is home to the famous Himalayan Golden Mahseer and Brown Trout. Trekkers can also push an additional 5 km up to Darwa Pass (4,150m) for panoramic vistas of the Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini ranges.
Trekkers are reminded to stay properly hydrated with a minimum of 3-4 liters of water daily. Uttarakhand forest regulations strictly forbid single-use plastics and campfires outside designated grounds. Always pack out non-biodegradable waste.
