Trail Overview & Topography

Situated on the lateral moraine opposite Tapovan, Nandanvan ("Garden of the Gods") at 4,337m is a small grassy plateau nestled right at the junction of the Gangotri, Chaturangi, and Raktavarn glaciers.

Beginning from Gangotri and passing Gaumukh, the trail crosses the vast boulder-strewn Gangotri Glacier to reach Nandanvan. The campsite provides a sublime vantage point directly beneath the monumental west face of the Bhagirathi sisters (I: 6,856m, II: 6,512m, III: 6,454m).

From Nandanvan, trekkers enjoy an astonishing panorama of Mount Shivling rising from the opposite bank of the glacier like a giant white tooth against the cobalt sky.

High-Altitude Preparedness & Leave No Trace

Trekkers are reminded to stay properly hydrated with a minimum of 3-4 liters of water daily. Uttarakhand forest regulations strictly forbid single-use plastics and campfires outside designated grounds. Always pack out non-biodegradable waste.

Peaks Visible on Trail

Along the ridgelines and summit ascents of Gangotri Nandanvan Trek, trekkers are treated to sweeping views of legendary Garhwal & Kumaon summits:
