About Nandaprayag

Nestled along the Badrinath highway, Nandaprayag is the sacred meeting point of the glacier-fed Alaknanda and the gushing Nandakini River (flowing down from Nanda Ghunti). Named after Raja Nanda, who according to legend performed great penance here to receive Lord Vishnu as his foster son (Krishna), Nandaprayag was also the historic capital of the Yadu kingdom. Pilgrims on the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib circuit halt here to perform ritual prayers at the holy Sangam ghat and seek blessings at the historic Gopalji Temple.
