TUNGNATH
01
Standing at an astounding 3,680 metres (12,073 ft), Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Built of solid grey stone blocks, the temple is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas to atone for the sins of the Kurukshetra war. The 3.5 km stone-paved path features resting gazebos, mountain tea stalls, and grazing Monal pheasants.
TUNGNATH
02
Perched above Tungnath temple, Chandrashila (Moon Rock) peak is where Lord Rama is believed to have meditated after defeating Ravana. The summit offers an unmatched 360-degree panorama of the entire Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas—including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar, Chaukhamba, and Kamet.
LAKES
03
According to Hindu folklore, Deoria Tal is the lake where the Yaksha tested the Pandava brothers with philosophical riddles. The view of the Chaukhamba mountain massif reflecting in the lake at dawn is one of the most photographed sights in Uttarakhand.
MEADOWS
04
Nestled at 2,750m inside the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, this alpine clearing is surrounded by ancient buransh and oak trees. In April and May, blooming rhododendrons paint the entire landscape in scarlet red.
WINTER
05
The ancient winter seat of Lord Kedarnath where the Utsav Murti is worshipped during the harsh winter months. The temple also features the wedding pavilion (Mandap) where Lord Krishna’s grandson Aniruddha married Usha.
MEADOWS
06
